Project Foundation Skills

ALA (RTO# 41012) has developed an online / blended Project Management program, which is mapped to the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice. It has been designed for people who are not in Project Managers role, but would like to expand or develop their knowledge of the PM Lifecycle and Fundamentals of Project Management.

This course will enable someone who is not a professional project manager to learn the fundamentals of project management in order to manage projects related to areas of responsibility within the organisation.

The program reflects the cross-industry application of the work functions normally undertaken by a project team, spanning all phases of a project from concept through to close-out. You will gain valuable skills, including setting timelines and targets, project costing, budget management, quality control, communicating with key stakeholders as well as recruiting and leading personnel to work on the project.

What will I learn?

This program can give you the confidence to really advance in your career.

This nationally recognised qualification is aimed at giving aspiring project managers knowledge of the fundamentals of project management.

This program would suit all aspiring project managers. It is highly valued by organisations in both the public and private sectors and is delivered online, flexibly, with workplace application and business improvement initiatives meaning that you can continue in your current role as you study.

You will learn how to apply project management techniques - scope, time, quality, cost, human resources, information and communication, risk, procurement and project life cycle.

How does the Program work?

The program combines Business Courses, Videos, Business Impact and Challenge series from Skillsoft’s eLearning content.

The program is broken into 2 Themes, each containing 4 to 5 modules each. After you have completed the eLearning content for each module, you will be given the opportunity to apply your learning on the job.

Each month the program work gives participants an easily digestible amount of information that won't overload or impact on your work life. This allows you to better retain and transfer the knowledge of each module into your workplace as well as throughout the remainder of the program.

Additionally, you are required to complete a workplace project / business initiative, with mentoring sessions to be scheduled.

The “Research Tasks & Workplace Application” activities provides time to reflect on the content and your own thought processes, experiences, and work habits allowing to make deeper affective and cognitive connections with the content, which contributes to long-term application of the principles that are covered.

This is an online self-paced program. This means that you will complete your knowledge and initial skills development through online learning with specific milestones to complete along the way. You will also receive 2 x 1:1 mentoring sessions with an ALA assessor.

Entry Requirements
Who is this course for?
  • This program is designed for people who identify and apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts: contracts officers, project administrators, quality officers and small business operators. It’s intended to build on your current expertise and knowledge.
  • Individuals in these roles might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes. Primarily, these roles would support wider project operations. They may use project tools and methodologies selectively to support organisational or business activities.

This qualification is suitable for autonomous individuals who identify and apply project management skills and knowledge in a wide variety of contexts. Job titles for these roles may include contracts officers, project administrators, quality officers and small business operators.

Individuals in these roles might be members of a project team, with no direct responsibility for overall project outcomes. Primarily, these roles would support wider project operations. They may use project tools and methodologies selectively to support organisational or business activities.

What is the Entry Criteria?

Minimum age requirements

  • You will need to be at least 18 years old.

Education requirements

  • While there are no formal education entry requirements, ALA suggests you should have completed schooling to Year 10 and a minimum of one year of vocational experience, or a nationally recognised qualification at the Certificate II level or higher, or at least two years of relevant vocational experience.

Project management is being increasingly recognised as a vital skill-set for many management positions, not just those with the title of "project manager". This course provides in-depth, practical, project management foundation training.

You will apply project management fundamentals in your own organisation, providing an understanding of how to implement a range of tools and techniques to be used for managing projects and workloads.

The program provides a comprehensive introduction to the basics of project management—its essential terminology, principles, and processes and covers critical “soft” skills such as interpersonal communication and conflict management.

It combines both the ‘art’ and ‘science’ of project management; from the basic, underlying principles of project management, through to their application in the many challenging situations faced daily by Project Managers.
